Explore Ireland’s Ancient East, One Pedal at a Time

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to cycle through living history, come to Meath. With ancient tombs, ruined castles, lush countryside and winding greenways, this county offers a blend of legend and leisure that’s hard to beat.

At Feel Good Bike Experiences, we call Park Beo Wilkinstown home, and it’s the perfect place to start your two-wheeled adventure. Whether you’re planning a laid-back spin or booking one of our new guided tours, we’ll help you see Meath like a local.

Here’s what we recommend for an unforgettable ride through Ireland’s Ancient East.

Begin in Wilkinstown…

Small Village, Big Greenway Energy

Wilkinstown is where the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway really shines. Our bike rental hub is located at Park Beo, right beside the old railway station, which is now the start of a scenic traffic-free 30km trail heading both north and south.

It’s an easy-going route that’s ideal for families, solo riders, or anyone wanting to soak up the countryside without worrying about cars.

Don’t Miss These Local Highlights

Castletown to Nobber: This stretch of the greenway is a crowd favourite. It’s mostly flat, passes through gorgeous open farmland, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot a fox or hare darting across the path.

Nobber Heritage Centre

A brilliant little stop packed with local lore. Did you know it’s the birthplace of Turlough O’Carolan, Ireland’s famous blind harpist, born in 1670? Well now you do.

Boyne Valley Flavours

This is a network of over 100 different local food and drink producers. And it’s a fantastic way to experience Ireland’s Ancient East. You’ll taste fresh local ingredients prepared by some of the best chefs in Ireland.

Ancient Sites Just Off the Trail

Let’s say you want to venture a bit further than the greenway to explore the green and yellow of Meath. One of the joys of cycling in Meath is how close you are to some of the country’s most important historical landmarks.

Take a short detour and you could be standing in front of:

The Hill of Tara

Ancient seat of the High Kings of Ireland, and a breathtaking panoramic view to top it off.

Newgrange

Okay, it’s a bit further from the greenway, but if you’re up for a longer day out (or an e-Bike), it’s totally doable. This 5,000-year-old passage tomb is older than the pyramids, and it lights up with the sunrise on the winter solstice.

Trim Castle

Film buffs might recognise it from Braveheart, but history lovers will appreciate its Norman roots and sheer scale. Guided tours available and bike parking is no problem.

Guided Tours…

For the Stories Behind the Scenery

While riding solo is great, our guided bike tours add that little extra magic. Picture this: a local guide (probably Shay, who knows more random history facts than Wikipedia) leading you along the trail, sharing tales about fairy forts, famine roads and ancient trees with more character than most humans.

It’s history with the wind in your hair and no schoolbooks in sight.

Cycling Meath

A Slower Way to Discover More

What we love about Meath is how layered it is. On the surface, it’s all peaceful countryside and charming towns. But just below that, there’s a deep sense of story, of footsteps and wheels that have passed these same roads for centuries.

As George puts it: “There’s something powerful about riding through a place where kings once walked and ancient people watched the stars. You feel it. Even if you don’t know the names, you feel it.”

Plan Your Meath Adventure Today

Whether you’re in it for the history, the scenery, the peaceful cycle routes, or just a good spin with great snacks, Meath delivers. Book your bike rental or guided tour now and come explore Ireland’s Ancient East the Feel Good way.
