Make the Most of Your Time on Wheels

Whether it’s your first spin on the Greenway or you’re planning a multi-day bike adventure, a little preparation goes a long way. This page is your one-stop guide to help you plan, pack, and ride with confidence.

We’ve included local tips, safety advice, and links to guides for both Cavan and Meath so you can discover everything the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway has to offer.

What to Wear

  • Irish weather can be… unpredictable. We recommend:
  • Comfortable activewear
  • Waterproof jacket (just in case)
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Layers – it might be sunny, breezy, and drizzly all in one day!
  • Sunglasses and sun cream (yes, really!)
  • Helmets are included in all rentals and highly recommended!

Pre-Ride Checklist

Tick these off before you hit the trail:

  • Book your bike and choose the right size
  • Check your route and weather forecast
  • Charge your phone
  • Pack water and snacks
  • Let someone know, if going solo
  • Save useful numbers (see below)
  • Dress for the weather (see below!)

Safety First

  • The Greenway is off-road, but safety is always key:
  • Obey signage and respect others on the trail (including walkers)
  • Stay visible with bright clothing or high vis
  • Use your bell when approaching others
  • Carry basic first aid items
  • In an emergency, dial 112 or 999
